![]() This Silent Hill-inspired map is easily one of the most lopsided maps in Dead by Daylight. Midwich Elementary School Image via Behaviour Interactive Tight spaces and a lack of escape routes make this one of the best maps for Killers. Besides the basement and an upstairs section near the middle, the map is entirely flat. While they can potentially use the many corners and turns through each room, there are not many places to hide. The way the map is set up can make it feel like a labyrinth. Inside maps can be rather challenging for Survivors, and Léry’s Memorial Institute is no exception. Léry’s Memorial Institute Image via Behaviour Interactive In short, Lampkin Lane is one trap after another for the Survivors, but it’s a welcome playground for a killer. Walking around outside as a Survivor will surely have you found by the Killer, and the underground sections are not wide enough for anyone to have a cohesive escape plan. You can go in many of the buildings, but none of them offer good escape routes for Survivors, with one building being a deathtrap with a generator stuck in a corner that leaves you wide open to be grabbed. Lampkin Lane is Michael Myers’ (or The Shape’s) map and takes place in his small hometown. Lampkin Lane Image via Behaviour Interactive There is only one building that lets Survivors get some elevation with room to move around, so even if they work to get above you, there are not many areas to escape to when they get up there. The main road is essentially always patrolled by the Killer, making breaking off down alleyways to chase someone down a breeze. This and the few hiding places for Survivors make this one of the easier maps for the Killer to find Survivors. Grave of Glenvale is a brighter map than most others because of the setting sun, but still being play. Grave of Glenvale Image via Behaviour Interactive While each side of the map has decent roaming areas for Survivors to hide in, the fact that you can eliminate a large portion just by carefully patrolling will give yourself the advantage in many situations. The chokepoint in the middle can allow you to easily control half of the map at one time and force Survivors to stay away from areas you don’t want them in. With that in mind, here are the best maps in Dead by Daylight for Killers sorted alphabetically. In some games, they can dominate a map, while in another, they could fail to put anyone on a Hook at all. Even though the Killer will always be the biggest threat in a match, there can be a varying degree to their effectiveness, depending on their surroundings. They are continuously on the hunt for the Survivors and need to feed the Entity with bodies. In Dead by Daylight, the Killer is always the most robust piece on the board.

![]() In the beginning of the game you start with 3 energy per turn so you can play any combination of cards until your energy is gone. The combat loop is very simple and easy to pick up, all the cards have an energy cost usually 0, 1, 2, or 3 (a few cards have higher but have ways to reduce it). The main room type will either be regular monsters or elite monsters. There’s also bonus points to be earned for special conditions like having a certain number of curses in your deck or killing a boss without taking damage. To unlock these items you need to earn points, your point total is calculated based on your actions in the run such as floors cleared, bossed and elites killed, etc. How does Slay the Spire do this? First you have the characters, as previously mentioned two of the characters need to be unlocked, and within those characters each has 5 different unlocks and each level unlocks either 3 new cards or 3 new relics that are permanently added to the game. The biggest draw for any Roguelike game is the replayability factor, the game has to do something to draw you in and make it interesting to play the game over and over and over. Slay the Spire features a number of in-game achievements Some relics have very little impact on the game, and other relics will completely redefine your run and will change which cards you select. The other item you can collect during the run are relics, relics are passive items that like powers can have a single affect like making enemies start a fight weak or can be triggered by certain actions like gaining block after playing a certain number of cards. The final card type, curses are as expected bad, usually you will get a curse in return for performing a certain act to gain a reward or as the result of a relic (more on these in a minute) Powers can have a 1-time effect like adding strength or dexterity, or they can have recurring affects like drawing extra cards, or doing damage every turn. Powers are interesting because once the card is played the affect is persistent for the entire battle. Skills are much more varied these are your defensive cards, cards that heal, cards that add other cards to your hand or deck, and cards that debuff enemies or buff yourself. ![]() Attacks can range from the basic strikes, area of effect attacks that hit every enemy, or attacks that weaken or poison enemies. Cards are broken into 4 types attacks, skills, powers, and curses. Each character starts off with a starter deck, this will be the same every run and is mostly comprised of basic attacks and basic defends with a couple character specific cards thrown in. ![]() There’s a few recurring characters you will see in the game, but other than fairly minor events there’s no backstory or development to them.Īs deck-building game the core of the game revolves around the cards. There’s not much of a story line to worry about the core of the game is fight your way to the top of the Spire, figure out it’s secret(s) learn what worked or didn’t work and try again. When you start the game only the Ironclad will be unlocked but the other two characters quickly become available so there isn’t a long grind to be able to use them. Slay the Spire is a deck-building rogue like game where you can play as 1 of 3 characters: The Ironclad is a warrior type character who’s deck focuses on building up strength or creating an impenetrable wall of defense, the Silent is a rogue type character who uses cards centered around poison and small damage but high-combo attacks, the final character is a robot called the Defect who uses orbs to attack with different elements and to power his other abilities. I asked MegaCrit a long time ago if they had plans to release the game on other platforms and ever since their “yes” answer I have been eagerly awaiting the Nintendo Switch release, the one thing keeping me from playing more Slay the Spire was having it tied to my computer. The game has grown and developed between early access and the official launch in January of 2019, MegaCrit had almost weekly updates with new content, balancing, new graphics, and other quality of life improvements. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Slay the Spire was released as an early access game on Steam in November of 2017, and after watching a couple videos on YouTube I decided to buy in and give it a shot. Slay the Spire has a special place in my heart, I’ve played it a lot, and I truly mean A LOT, it has passed the original Binding of Isaac for second place in my Steam library for time played. ![]() ![]() While sections can pause and go at times, the well-paced bread crumb trail mystery mixed with the shared-media presentation - this is a video game structured like a TV show about the events of a writer's manuscript packed with licensed music after all - all combine into an almost ethereal experience. In 2021 this can make the narrative sections boring or slow, but what keeps it from turning into a meandering mess is Sam Lake's distinct writing style. The overabundance of voice-over narration telling you where to go, prompts that draw your attention to events or areas of interest, audio logs, and slow walking sequences can make the story feel more like a lecture than an experience. The attempts at having a “cinematic” presentation with dramatic slow motion and the camera pulling away to show a threat behind you. In addition to Alan Wake Remastered containing all of the content found in the original release, including the two DLC episodes and the “making of” video commentary track, there is a new Remastered audio commentary Cauldron Lake is a special place.įinally, while the central mystery plot and story turns all still pack some sinister punch, Alan Wake Remastered highlights some of the 2010s more annoying gaming trends. Despite some diverse options, you get like environmental effects, flashbangs, and explosive flaregun shots, some fights can boil down to “aim light source at an enemy, break down the shield, pump full of lead, repeat.” On top of that, the (thankfully minimal) platforming sections can feel dodgy and imprecise at the best of times. While the game's central “fight with light” mechanic is used for some clever puzzle and scenario design, a lot of which still hold up really well, gunfights and arena fights can drag. This is where the game shows its age the most. The game is still chopped up into daytime sections where you interact with major characters and explore locations, followed by nighttime sections where you are running through the woods fighting for your life between safe-havens. This is still the story of bestselling author Alan Wake unraveling the mystery of his missing wife and the manuscript of a horror story with his name on it dreadfully coming true. Technical updates aside, Alan Wake Remastered is the same gameplay experience at its core from 2010. ![]() This can potentially be taken care of with updates and patches, but overall, Bright Falls and its inhabitants have never looked better. Also, while the game itself runs spectacularly, some of the cutscenes appear to be locked to a certain framerate and have some visual hiccups. Some supporting characters don't fully make it out of the uncanny valley - expressive faces but robotic movements - and there are a few spots of geography that stick out. ![]() There are a few spots that can feel undercooked. Overall, Alan Wake Remastered is still a worthy remake of one of the great games of the Xbox 360 era. The game also lacks some modern features like HDR and raytracing support. It was already known since the official announcement that Alan Wake Remastered would include both DLCs The Writer and The Signal, but the standalone add-on Alan Wake's American Nightmare is unfortunately missing from the remaster. The PlayStation 5 version of Alan Wake Remastered appears to be dropping a few more frames here and there, but in comparison to the Xbox version there is no screen tearing thanks to activated V-Sync. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, the remaster is rendered at a resolution of 1440p while mostly maintaining 60fps. Alan Wake Remastered features higher resolution textures, improved lighting and shadow effects as well as overhauled character models for which modern shader effects have been utilized. In the aforementioned video, it becomes quite clear that the visual jump from the Xbox 360 original to current next-gen consoles is quite significant. Alan Wake Remastered ( from US$29 on Amazon) launched last week on PC, PS4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One and Series X/S consoles, and since gamers are mostly spending their hard-earned money for the graphical improvements of such a remaster, Digital Foundry has now put Alan Wake Remastered through its paces and released a tech review video of the new game. ![]() Many of them are more or less minigames and some can go on for quite some time. The challenges are just scenarios that give you the opportunity to earn extra credits but you don’t have to win to progress. Each monster will fight specific opponents in a specific order and there are Challenges to complete after certain fights. They seem to block all of your attacks and whenever you try to block they just grab and throw you. The fights get more challenging the further you progress through the mode and some of the later opponents can feel somewhat cheap. On Hard, the AI can easily destroy you but on Medium, the game will pose a decent challenge. ![]() There’s three difficulty modes and the gameplay is challenging but the Action mode feels more forgiving than the Adventure mode in Melee. You earn points or credits by winning fights, collecting the G-Cells scattered around the arenas, and by destroying targets like helicopters, tanks, and UFO’s. You select a monster and fight against a series of opponents. There are numerous modes to play through and the Action mode is where you’ll spend a good majority of your time. And that’s really all there is in terms of plot. The monsters wreak havoc and fight each other because that’s what makes these creatures so awesome. They once again set monsters loose around the Earth. Set after the events of Melee, the alien race known as the Vortaak learn of the humans acquiring Godzilla’s DNA, known in the game as G-Cells. Either way, Melee is a great game despite some of its issues. But I often wonder if that’s because people just didn’t know the sequels existed or if it’s because people thought they sucked. For the longest time, I was under the impression that Melee was the best Godzilla game on the market. For this review, I played the Xbox version. Developed by Pipeworks Software and published by Atari, Godzilla: Save the Earth was released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in November, 2004. ![]() Melee was released for the GameCube and Xbox, Save the Earth was released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and Unleashed released for PlayStation 2 and Wii. Maybe it was because of a lack of advertising, maybe nobody cared, or maybe it was because of the different home console releases for each game. Did you know that Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee is the first game in a trilogy? I didn’t know that until about four or five years ago and I’ve met a few people who also had no idea sequels existed. ![]() I'm a Hennessyholic I was born with my heart on my sleeve a fire in my soul and a mouth I can't control shirt, hoodie, sweater and v-neck t-shirt V-neck t-shirt Ladies tee Sweater Hoodie Best I'm a Hennessyholic I was born with my heart on my sleeve a fire in my soul and a mouth I can't control shirt If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
