This condition causes the eyes to bulge, not blink, and appear to be staring due to the thyroid producing an excess of hormones and causing the immune system to malfunction. The main condition associated with bulging eyes is Hyperthyroidism, particularly Graves Disease. A sign that the eye is bulging is if the white part of your eye is visible all the way around your iris. It does not store any personal data.An easy way to identify a bulging eye from a protruding eye is to look at the space between the eyelid and the top of the iris (the coloured part of the eye). Your recommended treatment plan will depend on the underlying cause of your eye bulging. If the white of your eye shows between your iris and your upper eyelid, it may be a sign of abnormal bulging. What does it mean when one of Your Eyes is white? Graves’ eye disease is the leading cause of bulging eyes. It’s important to get it checked by a doctor so you can start treatment for the condition that’s causing it. What does it mean when your eyes are bulging?īulging eyes, which your doctor may call “exophthalmos,” can be a sign of infection, thyroid problems, or other medical issues. It could be from a number of factors such as ocular migraine, regular migraines, muscle eye strain, too much computer use, or an infection. Why does my right eye feel like it is going to pop out? Fleming says, so they can start popping right out of your eyes. But if you’re not seeing your eye doctor as often as you should, it’s possible that your contacts won’t fit as well anymore, Dr. Why do my contacts keep popping out of my eyes?Įye doctors want to make sure you’re not running around using contacts that are no longer right for you. ![]() Can your eyes pop out from sneezing?īut you can cut or crush an eye, tearing through the front layers to the vitreous humor, a gooey gel like egg whites that fills much of the eyeball. “Pressure released from a sneeze is extremely unlikely to cause an eyeball to pop out even if your eyes are open.” Increased pressure from straining builds up in the blood vessels, not the eyes or muscles surrounding the eyes. In the field we call this injury a “ruptured globe”, and it is a surgical emergency that needs to be fixed by an ophthalmologist right away.Īlmond eyes are considered the most ideal eye shape because you can pretty much pull off any eyeshadow look. The more correct medical term would be “rupture”. ![]() Because eye changes most often develop slowly, family members may not notice it until the condition is fairly advanced. Seeing white in this area most often is a sign that the eye is bulging. Normally, there should be no visible white between the top of the iris (the colored part of the eye) and the upper eyelid. After being stable for several months or more, it is sometimes desirable to surgically move the eye into a more normal position. Will bulging eyes go away?Īlthough less variable than eyelid retraction, the protrusion of the eye can return to normal on its own. Some systemic health conditions, such as floppy eyelid syndrome and thyroid eye disease, can also increase the risk of globe luxation. This rare condition can happen spontaneously or occur due to head or eye trauma. Globe luxation is the medical term for when an eyeball protrudes or “pops” out of the eye socket. ![]()

![]() I often use Morph when I’m showing large graphs or images that I want to pan through or zoom in.Īs an example, to zoom in on an image, place it on a slide and then duplicate that slide, so you have the image on two consecutive slides. You can now do the same thing with PowerPoint’s Morph transition.Īvailable in the Transitions tab, Morph generates smooth movement and transitions from one slide to the next. With Magic Move, you could create a zoom-in transition for large images or objects, or just move around the slide. Magic Move was the one reason why I would dabble with Keynote. Again, you don’t have total customization control, but the fact that PowerPoint now prompts you to something different with your text is, I think, a big step. As you add text to your slide-in separate text boxes-you can select the Design Ideas button in the Design tab and, just like with photos, you’ll see some alternative layouts. (Alternatively, you could use a tool like Simple Slides, which has a comprehensive library of PowerPoint templates.) In general, the designs are not especially difficult to recreate. If, for example, you want to change the background color to something else, you’ll need to recreate the design on your own. The one thing I don’t like is that Designer will crop your photos and you can’t modify the colors, line widths, or other elements of the final design. Selecting one of the options will generate that slide for you. With Designer activated, once you drop in more than one object onto a slide (an object can include a text box), Designer will generate a series of slide layouts you can choose from. If you get annoyed with the constant recommendations, you can always turn it off. At the bottom of the menu, you will see the PowerPoint Designer section and a check box. Like some of the default templates, not all of these design ideas are great, but I think many of them are pretty good and will at least give you some ideas.ĭesigner should be turned on by default, but if not, you can enable it by going to the General menu in PowerPoint options. Designer for Photosĭesigner can improve your slides by automatically generating design ideas you can choose from. These are the tools I use in my own workflow I am not receiving any financial benefits from the companies and services I mention here. ![]() Before I get to it, I should admit that there are really 7 things here new to PowerPoint 2016-the other 3 are things I think you should just know.įinal thing: This post is not intended as a promotion for PowerPoint, The Noun Project, or any of the other tools and resources I link to here. I talk about these in my presentation workshops and certain features elicit some excitement, so not everyone knows about these. The latest iteration of PowerPoint was released in July 2015, but I recently saw a discussion on Twitter pointing out one of its new features, so I thought it worth writing down my list of the 10 things I like the most about PowerPoint 2016. Used well, you can deliver high-quality presentations with high-quality, in-depth content to your audience with PowerPoint. You do not need to let the tool drive how you think about your content or how you deliver your content-you are in control of how to become an audience-oriented speaker rather than a presenter-oriented speaker. It doesn’t matter if it has bad defaults, ugly templates, or promotes conspicuous decoration, it is simply a tool.īut. It doesn’t matter whether it was developed by a big, bureaucratic software company or whether it has been used poorly by (countless) others, it is, in fact, a tool. PowerPoint, like Prezi, Keynote, and others is-for better and for worse-a tool. In Volta, this was important in reducing latency when the tensor cores were in play, and in Turing this likely benefits RT cores similarly, which we will discuss in a later section. Memory-wise, every sub-core now has an L0 instruction cache like Volta, with identically sized 64 KB register file. This is actually a concept that circumscribes the RTX-OPS metric, and we will revisit that in depth later. The same is most likely true with Turing’s 2 nd generation tensor cores and RT cores, where 4 independently scheduled sub-cores and granular thread manipulation would be very useful in extracting the most performance out of mixed gaming-oriented workloads, where rendering a single frame would be pulling in multiple blocks of the GPU to work in conjunction. While these details may be more on the technical side of things, in Volta this design seemed inextricably linked to maximizing the most amount of performance from tensor cores, but minimizing disrupting parallelism or coordination with other compute workloads. Maimed FP64 is standard for NVIDIA’s consumer GPUs, but what has not been standard until now is Turing’s full 2x FP16 throughput, which was available in GP100 but was crippled in the other Pascal GPUs. ![]() Where Turing differs is in lacking Volta’s full complement of FP64 cores, instead having a token amount (2 per SM) for compatibility reasons and resulting in FP64 throughput being 1/32 the TFLOP rate of FP32. With the split INT/FP datapath model like Volta, Turing can also concurrently execute FP and INT instructions, which as we will see, is much more relevant with the RT cores involved. In terms of the CUDA cores and ALUs, the Turing sub-core has 16 INT32 cores, 16 FP32 cores, and 2 Tensor Cores, the same setup as the Volta sub-core. So all threads are equally concurrent, regardless of warp, and can yield and reconverge. ![]() Rather than per-warp like Pascal, Volta and Turing have per-thread scheduling resources, with a program counter and stack per-thread to track thread state, as well as a convergence optimizer to intelligently group active same-warp threads together into SIMT units. Like we saw in Volta, these changes go hand-in-hand with the new scheduling/execution model with independent thread scheduling that Turing also has, though differences were not disclosed at this time. Turing is presumably identical to Volta performing instructions over two cycles but with schedulers that can issue an independent instruction every cycle, so ultimately Turing can maintain 2-way instruction level parallelism (ILP) this way, while still having twice the amount of schedulers over Pascal. There are some fairly major implications with change, and broadly-speaking this means that Volta/Turing loses the capability to issue a second, non-dependent instruction from a thread for a single clock cycle. Like Volta, the Turing SM is partitioned into 4 sub-cores (or processing blocks) with each sub-core having a single warp scheduler and dispatch unit, as opposed Pascal’s 2 partition setup with two dispatch ports per sub-core warp scheduler. Turing’s advanced shading features are also in the same bucket in needing explicit developer support. ![]() Putting the RT Cores and Tensor Cores aside for now, the most drastic changes from Pascal are same ones that differentiated Volta from Pascal. In fact, on a high-level, the Turing SM is fundamentally the same, with the notable exception of a new IP block: the RT Core. Diving straight into the microarchitecture, the new Turing SM looks very different to the Pascal SM, but those who’ve been keeping track of Volta will notice a lot of similarities to the NVIDIA’s more recent microarchitecture. For example, if someone says to you ‘don’t think about a pink elephant’, it’s the first thing you’ll picture in your head. It refers to the human tendency to continue to think about something after being told not to think about it. However, there is a problem with this and it’s called the Ironic Process Theory or the White Bear Principle.
